The Colombo Club was founded in 1871 and is one of the oldest social clubs in Asia. It is also the second oldest social club in Sri Lanka. The Colombo Club has over 400 members and welcomes both men and women.
The Club is located at the Taj Samudra Hotel premises overlooking Galle Face Green and Colombo Port City, the newly announced commercial hub of Colombo. While the Club does not offer residential facilities, members may make hotel room and restaurant reservations at the Taj Samudra Hotel through the Colombo Club front desk and receive special pricing and promotions.
The Club has reciprocal access arrangements with 52 exclusive clubs in Asia, Europe, South Africa and the United States so our members may enjoy similar facilities to The Colombo Club during their travels.
The then Governor of Ceylon, Sir Hercules Robinson was one of the founder members of the Colombo Club. Following Sir Hercules, the Chairmanship of the Club passed on to several other Governors of Ceylon including Sir William Henry Gregory, K.C.M.G, Sir James Robert Longden, G.C.M.G and Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon, G.C.M.G. Since then, the Chairmanship of the Club has passed on to 78 other leading and distinguished gentlemen of the mercantile sector.
The first Sri Lankan chairman of the club was Mr. Mallory E Wijesinghe who succeeded Mr. Singleton- Salmon, O.B.E, JP, MP in 1971. Mr. Wijesinghe’s tenure was followed by Mr. R.M Canekeratne, Mr. T.M Moy, Mr. B.R Jesudason, R.S.R Candappa, Deshamanya Dev Rodrigo, Mr. T.K Bandaranayake, Mr. Hemaka Amarasuriya, Mr. Dickie Juriansz, Mr. Sega Nagendra, Mr. G. Manik Pereira and currently, Mr. Nigel Austin, all distinguished and leading personalities in the mercantile sector

The Club has several well maintained and state of the art facilities for use of members and their guests. We do however enforce a strict dress code when attending club events or when using club facilities. Men and women are encouraged to wear Business Attire. We will not be able to accept any member or their guests dressed in collarless t-shirts, shorts or swim wear.
The Club has a fully stocked bar carrying premium spirits including a wide array of world class wines, whiskies and cognacs. In addition, members may choose to keep a private locker complete with their personal favorite spirits to be used exclusively by the member.
Our dining room provides multi course Western, Indian, Chinese and Sri Lankan cuisine by the Taj Samudra Hotel. The dining room can seat 40 comfortably. With advance notice, we can provide customized medium sized event catering services for special occasions. Our restaurant is open during club hours or between 8 am and Midnight. Last call for food orders is 10:30 pm.
The Club maintains an inviting and comfortable main lounge complete with a piano. Members can use the lounge to meet their guests for meetings and/ or cocktails. A Billiards table is also available.
The Club has four meeting rooms, all of which can be rented by members based on availability. The meeting rooms may be used for business presentations or for private dining parties. The meeting rooms are fitted with state-of-the art audio visual capabilities and have comfortable seating for groups of between 8 to 16.
Any person wishing to become a member of the Colombo Club must go through a process described below. This process requires that the application be proposed by a Member of the General Committee of the Club at the time and be seconded by a Member of the Club.
Applications may be submitted under two categories of membership at the Colombo Club. Individuals may apply in their personal capacity. Corporates submitting an application would if approved be able to nominate up to four nominee members.
Any resident of Sri Lanka over 25 years of age may apply for Individual Membership of the Colombo Club by completing an Individual Membership Application. Each application must include the names of the Proposer and Seconder, at least one of whom needs to be a member of the General Committee of the Club. The applicant must be personally known to both the Proposer and the Seconder. In the event that the applicant is not known to two members of the General Committee, the applicant must be known personally to another member of the Club. The applicant may be called for an interview prior to the Application being submitted for approval at a meeting of the General Committee.
Fees:
Any corporate entity – whether listed or private, and/or its subsidiary all of which must be registered with the Registrar of Companies, Sri Lanka may apply for Corporate Membership of the Colombo Club by completing a Corporate Membership Application.
Once approved, a Corporate Member can nominate up to four directors or senior leadership team members as its nominees. Each nominee will have to submit an Individual Membership Application as detailed above and be approved as an Individual Member prior to using the Club.

The level of privileges and access granted by each of these reciprocal clubs to a member of the Colombo Club varies by club.
